Work sucks but ....
I had to go to the NHT this week and got to
use their new car park. Now this new car park is a fancy foreign-looking
multi-story thing, complete with the fancy foreign entry and exit system.
You know the type – one with a button to press and get a ticket to enter
and exit. Designed to save on staff costs as it is automated.
Well, this labour saving devise currently
has 4 people stationed there all day to operate it. You drive up and see
the really big sign saying push button to get ticket to enter. And then
you see a big sign beside the button saying push here. So I wind down my
window to push the button. Uh-uh, not right. There is a man there to push
the button for you and hand you the ticket. You are not allowed to push
the button yourself.
Then coming out, there is a lady in a booth
to take money or check your stamp on the ticket. I guess we haven’t
reached the automated money bit yet. But you can’t just hand it to her, oh
no. There is a man standing there to take the ticket and hand it to her.
And finally, there is another man standing by the exit, just to keep an
eye on it all. I guess he is the supervisor.
So installing this fancy labour saving
system has resulted in replacing the one person giving out and collecting
tickets with four people to help. I wonder if this is because it is new –
but I somehow think that all four will be there for a long time…
